Week of April 18th

It was such an exciting week in first grade last week ! We had so much fun with our rice babies . We will miss them this week ! I've attached lots of pictures for you to view .

It's hard to believe it's almost May!  These kids are working really hard to get ready for second grade . We are working really hard on writing a paragraph with five or more sentences . We have started a "dictation sentence star " incentive for those who get all of their dictation sentences correct . We are all working on math facts ! Make sure to practice these with your child each night so that they are able to answer these problems with ease on Friday . As the year comes closer to an end , it's easy to become less serious about reading each night with your child ( it's happening at our house too :) !) Please remember that each child is required to take at least one AR test each week . This will be something that the children will be held responsible for next year in second grade . We check out library books each Monday so please don't forget to return books so that your child can have a book to read for their weekly AR quiz .

Here are some upcoming events:

Field trip to Macon science museum is May 11th (watch for an email from Jannellen about this)

Muffins with moms ( our Mother's Day celebration ) will be May 5th

Field day is May 6th (wear house shirts)

I have more pics to share later :)

Week of April 11

Hi everyone! I hope everyone had an awesome spring break! We are SO excited about rice babies this week! It was so exciting to have everyone bring in their babies this morning. Our classroom has been transformed into a baby nursery! A few quick notes about rice babies....

- Our rice babies will spend the night at school :) They will come home on Friday for you to keep.
- Our field trip is Thursday. Please don't forget to pack a lunch box (no foods that need to be warmed up) and dress uniforms.
- Please send a baby picture of your child if you have not done so yet. Our classroom door has all our baby pictures on it.
- Please return the "All about Me as a Baby" information sheets (these were placed in binders before break)
- Friday we will present our rice babies in chapel and recite a poem.

It is going to be a wonderful week! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -Shannon

Our proud first graders and their rice babies:
