Week of Feb. 29th

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! The kids did a WONDERFUL job Friday night at the Lion King. I attached some pictures of our cute first grade kiddos. I was so proud of everyone! Please read the information below:

1. Doubles facts- We are practicing our doubles addition facts. This Friday we will take a short quiz to review the doubles facts 0-10. (0+0, 1+1, 2+2.....10+10)

2. Dictation sentences- Please note that on the back of the homework assignment sheet there are four dictation sentences. Your child needs to practice writing these correctly. Starting this Friday your child will be asked to write these correctly on the back of their spelling test. I will read each sentence and your child will be asked to write the sentence  (correct spelling, capitalization, spacing, and punctuation).

3. Get Away Gig- Don't forget the Get Away Gig is Saturday night! I look forward to seeing you!

4. Leprechaun traps- Be on the look out for a note about leprechaun traps :) 

This week we will be learning about motion and balance in science. We will do a fun experiment with a paper robot and balance. The kids last year had a ball with this! We will also be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! Have a great week!

Doubles and Dinos!

We are working on mastering our doubles addition facts. We have been learning how doubles can help us solve addition facts easier. Next Friday, March 4th we will take a short doubles quiz to practice our doubles facts. Please practice the following facts at home to ensure that your child knows these with ease. We will be practicing these daily in class too! Our goal is that the children are able to answer these automatically and quickly! Thank you!

Also......We are dino crazy this week! Our weekly story is about dinosaurs. The kids are going nuts over learning about these cool creatures. We checked out tons of books from the library and they are enjoying reading to their dinosaur friends. Thank you to Gaines for bringing in these awesome dinosaurs. 

Week of February 22nd

Hi everyone! Please read the information below about our week and some upcoming events we have in first grade. Thank you!

1. Conferences- Conferences are Wednesday, February 24th. I look forward to chatting with you!

2. Lion King- Our school wide performance of the Lion King is February 26th at 6:00 at the Lamar County Fine Arts Center. The children are so excited! 

3. Get Away Gig- The gig is coming! Mark your calendars for March 5th. This is always a fun night!

4. Good Friday- We will not have school on March 25th.

5. Spring break- Spring break is April 4-8.

6. Hospital field trip - We will go on our first grade field trip to Spalding Regional Hospital on April 15th. This field trip is in correlation with our rice baby unit of study. Rice babies will be brought to school the week of April 11th (more information on this coming soon!).

I have attached some pictures from math this week (creating shapes using geo boards) and social studies (creating a web of ideas about George Washington Carver). I also attached two pictures from our field trip! 

Week of Feb 15th

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great winter break! Thank you to all that helped with the Valentine's day party last Friday. It was so much fun!  This will be a fast week! Please read the information below:

1. There will be no spelling words or math facts/sight words this week :)

2. Conferences are on February 24th. Please let me know if you would like a conference.

3. The Lion King will be Friday, February 26th. The kids are so excited!

This week in language arts we will be reviewing skills covered already this quarter. In math we will be exploring true and false sentences, reviewing double facts, reviewing shapes, and introducing near doubles. We will also be learning about George Washington Carver.

Week of February 8

Hi! We have a busy week this week! Please read the information below.

1. Field trip- Our field trip to the Macon Grand is on Wednesday. We will be wearing dress uniforms. Please pack a big snack for your child to eat before we leave for the field trip. We won't eat lunch until we get back. If you have signed up to come with us, please make sure you are at the school by 10:00 am. We will leave shortly after 10:00. It is going to be a fun day!

2. Chapel on Friday-  Friday we will be reciting some fun Valentine's day poems during chapel. We would love for you to join us!

3. Valentine's Party- Our class party will be on Friday at 2:15. Don't forget to send your child's Valentines to pass out to their classmates.

4. Winter Break- Don't forget that we do not have school on February 15th or 16th. 

5. Conferences- Conferences will be on February 24th from 1:00-5:30. Please let me know if you would like to meet :)

I have posted some pictures from last week below. I attached pictures of the children working with place value blocks during math, experimenting with simple machines during science, and creating "love bugs" with our 5th grade buddies.
